My stepfather Bruce was an Army veteran who spent his entire adult life serving his country. Sadly, he passed away last week after he lost his five year long fight with terminal dementia.

Our family is devastated at thee lost of beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was such huge presence in our all over lives and now we as a family have to face living without him.

Bruce, my mother, and I have been raising my sister's five children together and now those children face an uncertain future due to not only the loss of the only father figure they have ever known but also due to the rocky financial circumstances Bruce's death has left us in.

We are struggling to pay not only his funeral expenses but also living expenses such as our mortgage, utilities, food, and childcare. Both my mother and I are disabled and neither of our meagre incomes can pay for what we need.

We desperately need these funds to keep our family afloat and it would give us the space we need to grieve our loss without worrying about how we are going to pay the bills.
