Support for Brown Dog Flower Farm Fire Damage
Donation protected
If you know Mimi and Ben, you’ve likely been touched by their generosity, infectious laughter, hard work, and willingness to lend a hand. Now, it’s our turn to support them and Brown Dog Flower Farm during an incredibly difficult time.
On Monday evening, just after dinner, Mimi and Ben were heading back out for more farm work when they saw flames coming from their barn and greenhouse. Quickly, it escalated into a devastating fire that completely destroyed the barn, greenhouse, and flower cooler. These structures were essential to the operation of their farm—housing tools, supplies, and equipment needed to grow and store their stunning blooms.
After running Brown Dog Flower Farm on leased land since 2014, Mimi and Ben were finally able to buy their own property in the summer of 2022. Over the past three years, they’ve poured their hearts into turning raw land into a fully functioning farm— cultivating the land and building infrastructure like the greenhouse, barn, flower cooler, high tunnels, and fencing. This fire completely destroyed the barn/greenhouse/cooler structures.
This loss comes at a challenging time—right at the start of Alaska’s short but intense growing season. Our support can help replace items that are immediately needed to continue farming this season. The funds we’re raising right now are to help them replace the essential tools and materials they need to keep the farm going this season. While rebuilding the barn and greenhouse will be a longer-term effort, any additional funds raised will go directly toward those costs as well.
As many of us know, dealing with insurance—whether for a home, business, or medical need—can be a slow and frustrating process, and it often falls short of covering true losses. Unfortunately, that's the case here too.
Every donation, big or small, will make a difference. And if you're not able to give financially, sharing this fundraiser is another powerful way to help.
