Please support Brinnen's D-TGA medical journey

Hello our names are Faye (Grandma) and Flora (Grand-Gran)

Our adorable grandson Brinnen Kyrie or “BJ” as we so fondly call him, was born on November 21, 2022, at John Hopkins Medical Center. As proud grand-mothers we were excited and looked forward to sharing the experience of seeing him come into this world however, we were not prepared for the news that he was born with a very rare and complex congenital heart condition, called Transposition of the Great Arteries (D-TGA).

With less than 72 hours on this earth, Brinnen had open heart surgery on Wednesday, November 23rd. His parents (Bernard and Brianna) have been by his side praying, watching and waiting for positive news regarding their baby boy and like always the grandmas have spent countless hours supporting them both while feeling the emotional pain of knowing there was nothing we could do to fix it. This journey feels endless and all of our hearts are bleeding for we want nothing more than for BJ to come home. Dad has returned to work but mom is at the hospital every day for the medical meetings concerning his condition and to give BJ (Brinnen) comfort in knowing mommy is right there beside him on his journey to recovery.

Now more than ever they need your help and would appreciate any act of kindness to assist them in getting through this difficult medical crisis. For years I served in my community working with individuals and families but never imagined all the things that are impacted when a child is born with a major medical condition. We never thought about the additional cost of gas going back and forth, purchasing meals on the run, purchase of monitoring devices and other miscellaneous things that are not covered by insurance that were brought to our attention. On top of those things, there is a drastic decline in income because of lost hours at work or total loss of income because mom can’t be on the job and at the hospital at the same time. I can’t imagine mom being anywhere else but standing in the middle of a discussion concerning the progress and medical status as our little Brinnen fights the battle of his life.

The recovery process following surgery has come with ups and downs many of which we can not fully understand right now but Brinnen is a fighter and we’re so proud of him. I’ve always told those I’ve served that life comes with an “ask” so don't be ashamed or afraid to ask, after all, no one can support you if they don't know. I’m asking for your support on behalf of Brinnen’s parents who are so worried as they face this medical and financial challenge.

We’re very proud of Brinnen young parents and the way they have put their best on the outside, the way they have supported each other and the strength they have shown during this crisis.

Thank you in advance for your love, compassion and support.
