Brian became my stepbrother (he’s just “brother” to me) at the age of 5. What a cute, sweet little guy he was! I’m thankful that God brought him and his family into our lives! During 2003, Brian became very sick and was eventually diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis about 10 years ago and was told a transplant was his only option. He waited 8 years -- until December 24, 2019, when he received the call and became the recipient of a donor liver on December 25th, 2019. Brian and his family send a heartfelt thank you to the donor and donor’s family for their gracious gift. He was doing amazingly well and was released from the hospital in Edmonton within approximately 2 ½ weeks of having the surgery. Unfortunately, he encountered major complications and, at the age of 41, is back in the Edmonton hospital, fighting to win this battle.
I have set up this Go Fund Me page in hopes of raising enough money to help Brian and his mom with expenses. Of course, I, along with other family members, will give what we can. Brian has suffered a lot for many years. He’s been fighting so hard for so long and it has taken a toll on him as well as his family, in many ways…finances is one of them. When he was well, he enjoyed going to work and living a “normal” life, but his physical limitations forced him to have to give up his job years ago and he is currently receiving AISH disability payments. From knowing Brian, I’m positive he would give anything to get back to work again and enjoy the freedoms most of us take for granted.
His mom and other siblings have had to travel from Prince George, B.C. and Calgary, Alta., in order to be there for him in Edmonton. Expenses are enormous with accommodations, travel, food, etc. His mom, Sharron (from Prince George), has always been a hard worker, is self-reliant, and she and her family would never ask for financial help, but I know they would greatly appreciate any support given to enable them to remain at Brian’s side during this critical time. Though Sharron doesn’t talk about it, I know this places a financial burden on her, as she has incurred living out and travel expenses since December and we have no idea how long Brian will be in the hospital now, but I believe usual recovery time is at least 3 months but can be longer.
Our hearts are hurting for the suffering Brian has gone through, and continues to go through, but we are not letting go of hope! We have heard that it’s not unusual to go through setbacks like this after this type of major surgery. Thank-you, so much, for your kindness, love, and generosity. Please also join us in prayer for a complete recovery. We will be sure to keep you updated. Sending warm wishes to you and your loved ones!
