My mom has always been fiercely independent, working hard her whole life to support herself. At 71 years old, she was recently hospitalized for over a month because she could no longer walk or stand without pain. Now, she’s in a nursing physical therapy facility, working every day to regain her strength so she can return to her job at a convenience store, where she stands on her feet 30-40 hours a week just to make ends meet.

All she has to rely on is a Social Security check each month, which goes straight to her mortgage. That leaves her struggling to cover insurance, food, utilities, and doctor expenses. I wish I could help more, but I’m living paycheck to paycheck myself and can’t cover two mortgages. It breaks my heart to see her worry about bills when she should be focusing on getting better.

Neither of us are the type to ask for help, but I’m reaching out now because I can’t do this alone. My mom doesn’t know I’m starting this fundraiser, but I just want to give her some relief from the constant stress of bills so she can focus on healing and walking again.
