My son, Blaine, has been bravely fighting cancer for the past four years. Despite his strength and determination, we recently received the heartbreaking news that he has been given just six months to live. Earlier this year, Blaine lost his life insurance, which has added an extra layer of worry and uncertainty for his family during this already challenging time.
Blaine is a gentle giant, standing at 6’4”, and has always been the glue of our family. I know you often hear about people who light up a room or who nobody has a bad thing to say about, but this is truly Blaine. He is always the first to help—whether it’s a friend, family member, or stranger. He and his wife, Ashley, are two of the purest-hearted people you could ever meet, and they adore their five-year-old son, Alexander, with all their heart. Blaine is the rock/paper/scissor champion of the family, and that’s how he usually resolves things with people: “Let’s rock/paper/scissor it.” He’s the one his friends come to for advice, and he has fought this horrible disease from the age of 23 until now with more grace than I have ever seen.
Blaine loves playing Magic cards with friends and family, and he is a big fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sunday football days with family have always been one of his favorite things to do, bringing everyone together for laughter and memories.
The funds raised will go directly toward covering Blaine’s mounting medical bills and funeral expenses. We also hope to give Blaine, his wife, and Alexander the chance to take one final family trip together, creating memories that will last a lifetime. After Blaine is gone, Ashley will need time to grieve and help Alexander adjust to life without his father. Because she has been Blaine’s full-time caregiver, we want to ensure she doesn’t have to rush into finding a job, so Alexander can have as much stability as possible.
