My step-father Bill came into my life at a time when my family needed him most. I was just 8 years old, and my sister was 6. After five years of patiently courting my mom, Bill married her and completely changed our lives. While I wasn’t ready for such a massive change, Bill was always humble, understanding, and kind to all of us. He never asked for anything in return, but he was always the first to offer help in any way he could. He truly gave us all that we needed, and I am forever grateful for the love and stability he brought to our family.
Six months ago, Bill began having trouble answering simple questions, and my mom knew something was wrong. After seeing a doctor, we learned he had a brain tumor. The doctors were able to remove 80% of it, but sadly, it grew back quickly. Bill is now in hospice care at age 80, and my mom, who is 76, is his primary caregiver. Both of them were working 30 hours a week just to make ends meet, living month to month. Now, with neither able to work, they are facing mounting hospital bills and, heartbreakingly, the reality of upcoming funeral costs.
I am reaching out to ask for help for Bill and my mom during this incredibly difficult time. Any support you can give will go directly toward their medical expenses, daily living costs, and funeral arrangements. Bill has always been there for others, and I hope that those who can will consider being there for him and my mom now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and support.
I would like to thank everyone who has sent such thoughtful messages and donated. We appreciate your generosity and love. Bill passed away yesterday afternoon in his bed. He was comfortable and was with my mom and sister Carrie. Thank you for your continued support.
