I just want to share a bit more clearly about the accident itself. I haven’t seen the full police report yet, but here’s what I know for sure:

Bhagatbir booked a U-Ride (cab) to get to work that Sunday because buses weren't running due to Easter. He wasn't driving, he had no fault or control over what took place. The accident took place just outside his apartment building, moments after he started his trip.

I will be transferring all the money to his mother, Rajinder Kaur, after the company handling the repatriation of his body to India has been paid.

Hi everyone — my name is Avi, and I never thought I’d have to write something like this.

On April 21st, 2025, my close friend Bhagatbir Singh, only 20 years old, was involved in a devastating car accident in Red Deer, Alberta. He suffered a catastrophic C2 spinal cord injury and was transferred to a hospital in Calgary, where he has been on life support in the ICU ever since.

I saw him last Thursday when things still felt somewhat hopeful. But in the days that followed, his condition suddenly worsened. He had serious trouble breathing, and his heart stopped for a while. I was with him again yesterday and today, and we’ve now been told he likely only has 12 to 24 hours left.

His mother and sister are still in India, waiting on emergency visas, and time is slipping away. They are doing everything they can to get to him — and we’re trying to hold everything together here while they wait.
