I am organizing this fundraiser for my best friend because she won’t ask for help. She has lived in Beverly her entire life and is at risk of losing her home. She completely supported herself most of her adult life and when she got married, her husband became severely financially, verbally and emotionally abusive. He spent all of her money on gambling, partying, alcohol and other things. She borrowed from her retirement fund, paid that back, but he then stole credit cards, threatened her until she was further and further into debt, without ever helping with one bill or the mortgage. She is now in debt consolidation for more than $50,000 because of him. He recently left but the financial damage was already done. She is behind on her mortgage two months and found out this week that her mortgage will increase by $400 March 1, due to an escrow shortage of $3000. Also this week, her payroll dept was notified, two days prior to checks being deposited, that $450 would be withheld from her check due to his parking tickets with the city. She is absolutely desperate and needs help to just get back on her feet so she can remain in her home. She needs to start her life again and start to heal from all the trauma. This all happened so quickly and she is terrified of losing her home. If she can at least get over this initial escrow hurdle, she can slowly catch up on her past due mortgage and other bills.
