On Wednesday, May 20th, around 3:25PM, our family’s lives changed forever. My brother, Berry Lemar Henderson, tragically lost his life after a violent incident in West Hollywood near Hollywood Blvd and Las Palmas.

Berry was like a gentle giant; cool, calm, authentic man who enjoyed music, spending time in the city he loved, and living life in his own peaceful way. He was not homeless. He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his life mattered.

What began as an ordinary day turned into unimaginable violence. Berry was first attacked by a vicious dog while the owner stood nearby. Moments later, 3 men joined in and violently assaulted him, causing devastating injuries. Witnesses watched in shock as the scene unfolded, leaving excessive blood across the sidewalk and walls nearby.

After the incident, police arrived on the scene as the individuals involved ran into the Tattoo Doctors shop nearby. When first responders arrived, Berry was found injured and in distress, sitting against a wall, struggling to breathe and hyperventilating. He also suffered from asthma, making his condition even more critical in those final moments. He wasn’t sent to the local hospital but transported 20 minutes to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where he later passed away from his injuries that evening.

Even more heartbreaking, Berry passed away alone before our family could be notified. No family should ever have to learn of a loved one’s death in this way.

Although our hearts are shattered, we take comfort in knowing that Berry is now at peace with our beloved mother, Lisa Henderson.

Berry’s life ended far too soon, and our family is grieving this unimaginable loss. We are asking for help to assist our family.
