Support for Bennett Libke’s Cancer Treatment

As many of you know, Bennett was first diagnosed with type B acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2017. Over the next three years he underwent treatment and the cancer went into remission. 

Bennett finished his last round of medication in February of 2021, and almost exactly a year later their family got confirmation that the cancer has returned.

Bennett’s medical team immediately started an aggressive course of treatment. Over the past few months Bennett has spent most of his time in the hospital as his team has been working to determine a treatment that the cancer will respond to, as the treatment that was effective the first time was not as successful this go around.

Thankfully, there are other promising courses of treatment, although they are all out of province. Bennett and Maddy have already made one trip to Toronto for immunotherapy cell collection. They will be heading back to Toronto in the coming weeks and staying for at least 6 weeks. While in Toronto, Bennett will be spending some time at The Hospital for Sick Children where he will receive his reprogrammed cells. These super cells are able to find and destroy the cancer cells. This process will help him achieve remission.

After Toronto, Bennett will require a Bone Marrow Transplant in Winnipeg. This will help eradicate any remaining cancer cells in his body. At this time the projected length of stay in Winnipeg is a minimum of 3 months.

As was the case back in 2017, many family, friends and strangers have generously reached out to ask how they can help. This fundraiser has been set up to raise money to assist the Libke's with travel and accommodation costs required for this round of treatment. Any bit of financial help offered would go a long way in lightening their load for the journey ahead.
