Our family recently faced an unexpected and life-changing challenge when our son Beckham fell ill with a respiratory virus (HPMV). In his weakened state, his body went into diabetic ketoacidosis, a dangerous condition that can lead to coma or even be fatal. We rushed him to the ER, where doctors worked quickly to stabilize him and discovered he has Type 1 diabetes. This diagnosis came as a complete shock to us, and Beckham was required to stay in the pediatric intensive care unit for almost a week. Unfortunately, our medical insurance only partially covers the costs of his hospitalization and ongoing care.
The impact on our family has been significant. During Beckham’s hospital stay, we lost wages and have since faced mounting expenses for glucose monitoring, testing equipment, insulin, and other daily supplies he now needs. Our babysitter was unable to continue caring for Beckham due to the complexity of his new medical needs, so we’ve had to arrange for specialized childcare. This has been especially challenging as we also care for our other son, who has autism and requires additional support.
Any amount donated will help us cover Beckham’s medical bills, supplies, childcare, and lost wages. We are deeply grateful for any support you can offer during this difficult time. Thank you for standing with our family as we navigate this new reality. With gratitude, The Crommetts.
