My beautiful grand nephew, Winston, was born in July 2023. His mom, Hailey, and his dad, Nick were overjoyed upon his arrival. A few weeks later the new parents brought Winston to the pediatrician for a routine visit. Hailey mentioned to the doctor that she noticed her baby's feet were a little "puffy." The doctor didn't think it was anything significant but obliged the new mom's request to take an extra step. Little did she know, Hailey was already a superhero mom. Winston's swollen feet were a sign of kidney failure and he was immediately rushed to the ER. Since his admission, Nick and Hailey have learned that Winston will need to have his kidneys removed and he will need to be on dialysis until he reaches sufficient size, at which point he will need a kidney transplant. A recent surgery to install a port for dialysis left Winston with a dangerous infection. The new parents are exhausted and scared. They are anticipating a year-long journey with many ups and downs. They only have a few weeks left on their maternity leave and are stressed at the thought of leaving their baby's bedside. The young couple really needs our support to alleviate some stress so that they can focus all their love, attention and energy on taking care of sweet little Winston.
