We found out our baby Vinny had a congenital heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome at our 20-week anatomy scan. As first-time parents, hearing this news was absolutely heartbreaking and devastating. Since then, our lives have been turned upside down as we prepare for the challenges ahead. Seeing our newborn son go through open-heart surgery was something we never imagined, and knowing this is only the first of many hurdles is overwhelming. The surgery didn’t go as planned, and we’ve been told to expect a much longer stay in Madison than we hoped.

With everything happening so quickly, we’re doing our best to stay strong for Vinny. Unfortunately, Derek’s work doesn’t offer paid paternity leave, and it’s been a 6 months  since we welcomed our little boy.  Derek also wants to be by his side every step of the way, but the costs of travel, living expenses, and bills are adding up fast. Donations will help us cover these essentials so Derek can remain with us, supporting Vinny and bonding as a family during this critical time. Also funds will be used for medical equipment not covered by insurance that can help Vinny develop.
