On April 7, 2019, Valor Burns Mosko was born at 11:23 a.m. weighing 2 pounds and 14.5 inches long. Valor was born at 28 weeks and 6 days. Days before his birth, I had been hospitalized due to a pause in the blood flow to the umbilical cord. Doctors had already been following this issue as the blood flow had been restricted but this pause was of greater concern. I was told I’d be in the hospital for at least 48 hours. 48 hours became 6 weeks but that 6 weeks never came as I was forced to have a C Section five days later. My hypertension had gotten the best of me and the preeclampsia I was diagnosed with a couple of days earlier turned into a life or death situation for both me and Valor. I was discharged on April 12th, but Valor remains in the NICU for at least the next two months. Valor is facing many challenges that will accrue medical expenses and travel expenses as we visit him in the hospital an hour away from home. Due to the unexpected prolonged stay in the hospital for me and Valor, Dustin was unable to accept teaching contracts this spring and upcoming summer which also creates financial hardship. I have been reluctant to post anything about what has happened, but this is our reality – it is terrifying. Valor has been a long time in the making – we never thought we could conceive and yet here is this brave soul fighting to be home with us. We are so eternally grateful for the outpouring of thoughts and prayers from family and friends and decided to open this GoFundMe due to the offers to assist in other ways. Thank you for your support. Love, the Moskos.
