Update:
Tristan is now eight months old and has already endured more medical challenges than most of us will face in a lifetime. He spent the first six months of his life in the NICU due to end-stage kidney failure. During that time, he underwent multiple surgeries, including placement of a G-tube, a peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter, and a ureter ablation procedure. Unfortunately, his PD catheter initially didn’t function properly, requiring a revision surgery. He also received several blood transfusions due to consistently low hemoglobin levels.
Tristan began dialysis at just 2½ months old and was originally scheduled to come home in April. His mom spent weekdays at the hospital learning how to care for him while working on weekends, and his dad worked full-time to support the family. Then, at the end of March—just before Tristan's scheduled release—his mom was involved in a serious car accident. She nearly lost her life and has been recovering from multiple injuries ever since, all while continuing to learn how to care for Tristan.
The family was finally able to bring Tristan home at the end of April, but it was only for a short time. In early June, they returned to San Francisco for follow-up clinics and surgery consultations. Tristan, who is a very difficult poke for lab work, was being considered for a central line placement. After just one night back home, they had to return to the hospital because his PD catheter stopped working again.
Since then, Tristan has undergone another revision surgery and had a hemodialysis port placed, along with yet another blood transfusion. Now that his PD catheter is functioning properly again, he’s scheduled for surgery to remove the hemodialysis port. Because he’s so small, keeping the port in could increase the risk of serious complications like blood clots or stroke. Doctors plan to wait until he is around one year old before considering another port.
Looking ahead, Tristan is expected to face many more hospital stays. In mid-August, he will begin the evaluation process for a kidney transplant.
Due to the severity of Tristan’s condition, his mom is now his full-time caregiver and unable to work. She also no longer has a vehicle and is still recovering physically and emotionally from her accident.
This has been an incredibly difficult journey for their entire family, and any support—whether it’s financial, emotional, or simply sharing their story—means the world to them. Thank you for continuing to walk this road with Tristan and his family. Your kindness truly makes a difference.
Support for Baby Tristan and His Family
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out with an update on behalf of Travon and Julie, who recently welcomed their beautiful baby boy, Tristan, early Sunday morning, weighing 7 lbs. 3 oz. Tristan is here and fighting, but he’s already facing serious health challenges. Shortly after birth, he needed a procedure to relieve an obstruction between his bladder and urethra, and he now has a catheter to help drain urine.
His creatinine levels are rising, which has doctors concerned about his kidney function. He’s scheduled for surgery on Monday to address one of the two obstructions from his urethra to his kidneys, but this will depend on whether his levels can stabilize. It’s likely he will need dialysis soon and eventually a kidney transplant, which means he’ll be in the hospital for at least a few months.
Julie is staying with Tristan in San Francisco, but she’s currently on a waitlist for family housing provided by the hospital, adding even more financial strain as she waits for a place to stay. Meanwhile, Travon is working in Fresno, caring for their other children, and taking time off whenever he can to support Julie and Tristan. With the holidays approaching, this has been especially hard on their family, as Julie will need to remain off work much longer than expected to be there for Tristan.
Please keep Tristan, Julie, Travon, and their children in your thoughts and prayers. This has been an incredibly challenging time for them, and any support—whether through donations or by sharing this update—is deeply appreciated. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to this family as they prepare for the difficult months ahead.
Dear friends and family,
We are reaching out on behalf of Travon and Julie Allen, who are facing an incredibly difficult time. At 35 weeks pregnant, Julie was just flown from Fresno to San Francisco because their baby, Tristan, is experiencing serious health complications. Tristan will have a long and challenging road ahead, requiring specialized care.
As you can imagine, this sudden emergency has created financial stress on top of an already emotional time. They are now far from home, staying in San Francisco while trying to cover everyday bills and expenses like gas, lodging, and food—all while missing work.
We are asking for your support to help ease their financial burden so they can focus on being with Tristan and supporting each other through this difficult time. Every contribution, big or small, will make a huge difference for them.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, prayers, and kindness.
