Slade Gentry Eastberg made his way into the world on February 12th at 5:40pm and made the perfect 3rd addition to Bret and Jordyn's family. He was a great size at 7lbs 5 oz and 20.5 inches long. Immediately after birth, Slade was taken to the NICU at PVH and when Doctors realized he needed even more care, he was transported to Children's Hospital in Denver.
Despite normal ultrasounds in pregnancy, it was found that Slade's esophagus was not connected to his stomach and he would need immediate surgery. This was a huge and scary surprise for his family and Jordyn discharged the hospital mere hours after birth to be with her new baby. His 5 hour surgery was a success, although the healing time is long and Jordyn and Bret expect to be at Children's Hospital with him for months.
They received additional unfortunate news that Slade has a coarch in his heart that will need repaired with open heart surgery. Slade does have some additional small anomalies, but these are fortunately not life threatening. Jordyn and Bret are so thankful that all of his medical conditions are fixable, and he will be a wonderful baby brother to big brothers Brayden and Tucker.
Jordyn jokingly said the doctor told her Slade has reached the million dollar baby club... x3. The costs of Slade's medical care and surgeries, ambulance from PVH to Children's, as well as small things like food for Jordyn and Bret will add up quickly. Let's help them out in their great time of need.
