Proud parents, Malik and Naiyana welcomed their baby boy, Nasir Ali Shannon in a way they never expected.

At just 34 weeks, two days before they were to celebrate their baby shower, Nasir had to be delivered by emergency C-section. What they thought was a routine ultrasound to see their baby boy quickly turned into a terrifying rush of tests and unanswered questions.

Nasir was diagnosed with an extremely rare and life-threatening brain condition called Vein of Galen Malformation (VOGM). It’s a disorder where abnormal blood vessels in the brain cause dangerously fast blood flow, putting immense strain on both the heart and brain. It affects fewer than 1 in 1 million babies — and requires urgent, specialized neurosurgical procedures, known as embolization’s, to correct the blood flow in his brain. These surgeries are delicate and urgent — and they often must be done in stages over the course of months or even years.

Nasir has been transferred to a children’s hospital where he is being treated by a team of incredible doctors, but the emotional and financial toll is more than this young new family can manage alone.

Malik and Naiyana are staying by Nasirs’ side around the clock, watching monitors and praying for progress.

Our hearts are heavy, but full of hope, as we share the story of precious baby boy, Nasir.
