Last week, Baby Jayden wasn’t acting like himself. He wasn’t smiling, he wasn’t eating, and he was unusually sleepy. His parents knew something was wrong, so they brought him to the hospital on Wednesday. Doctors told them he had the flu and sent him home, hoping he would recover with rest. But Jayden never got better. By Saturday morning, everything took a heartbreaking turn. Jayden’s father went to check on him and found him unresponsive in his crib, having a seizure. They rushed him to the hospital, where he was immediately taken to the ICU. He was intubated within minutes as his little body fought to stay alive. Doctors discovered what no parent should ever have to hear: Jayden had developed meningitis, RSV, and a severe brain infection. Multiple infections had attacked him all at once, and his condition deteriorated faster than anyone could imagine. Within 24 hours of arriving at the hospital, a CT scan showed no brain activity. The infection caused catastrophic swelling and irreversible brainstem damage. As of now, Jayden is being kept alive by machines while doctors prepare to perform the final brain-death exam. This happened suddenly. This happened brutally. This happened without warning. And it has completely shattered his family.
