On May 25 at 7 PM my beautiful daughter, and son-in-law were in a head-on collision. Bailey was 25 weeks pregnant at the time. When we arrived we had no idea the severity of the crash. Bailey was rushed to the Emergency Room where they quickly decided a CT was needed to rule out a placental abruption. Hours later they would confirm the impact of the crash did cause a partial abruption. Bailey was hospitalized. The fear set in that our sweet granddaughter could come into the world dangerously early. On top of the risks of premature delivery doctors discovered Iris was growth restricted. This meant an early delivery would be even riskier. Nine long days passed with Bailey having intermittent contractions, Iris’ heart rate dropping and the doctors explaining an emergency c section and long term NICU stay could be on the horizon. On June 3rd at about 4:30AM, Bailey woke up with excruciating pain in her abdomen. Iris’s heart rate had dropped dangerously low and surgery was imminent. They were rushed to the OR in the blink of an eye. At 4:47 in the morning our 1 pound 7oz grand daughter was born into the world at just 26 weeks and 1 day. Bailey was sedated but safe. Iris was rushed to the NICU. Isaiah rushed to Bailey’s side while myself and Isaiah’s mom waited outside praying. It has been a blessing and a roller coaster from that moment on. From the intensity of praying that Iris survives to the challenges of figuring out how to handle these major changes, life has been upside down. Bailey was sent home days later without her baby. Since then Isaiah has been working long days as Bailey spends her days in the NICU with Iris, unable to return to work herself. They spend their evenings into late nights in the NICU together as a family.
Between the loss of work, the constant long drives to and from the hospital, medical expenses, and more, we’ve created this GoFundMe in hopes to aid Bailey, Isaiah, and Iris as they continue to navigate this journey. They still have a long road ahead in the NICU and could use any help they can get. All contributions and support are tremendously appreciated.
