Support for Baby Girl's Spina Bifida Fight
Donation protected
Unfortunately we received some not so great news at my anatomy scan for our baby girl this past week. They saw some things that didn’t look quite right so we were sent to Maternal Fetal Medicine where they confirmed a diagnosis of Spina Bifida. It is unfortunately a very severe case, common complication of spina bifida is called hydrocephalus, which leads to excess cerebrospinal fluid and pressure building up in the brain. It results from another condition called a Chiari 2 malformation, when part of the brain sinks into the upper spinal canal. Which is seen in the scans they did. The Dr thinks she may already have damage to the nerves in her legs but isn’t positive as they don’t test for that.
We were given some options and have decided we want to get a second opinion to make sure we do everything we can for our baby girl to give her the best life possible. That means we will need to travel to John’s Hopkins Hospital or UNC Health to undergo further testing to see if I would be a candidate for the in utero surgery where they would put a patch over the exposed nerves to prevent further damage and let things develop as they should.
I’m posting this to ask for prayers and help. Which is hard I don’t like asking for help, Sam and I will have to be out of work to go do this and we unfortunately don’t have all the funds to be able to get out there, possible medical bills and pay our bills. After the surgery I will most likely not be able to go back to work due to the possibility of uterine rupture which means I will be out of work until after September. If you can not financially contribute we ask for your prayers.
Our Baby Girls fight has just begun and although it will be a long and hard one, we have faith that God has already seen it through.
