As most of you know my sweet Niece Kylie and her husband Ivan just welcomed baby Gabriel into the world on April 22, 2026. At just 4 days old, Kylie and Ivan knew something was wrong with their bundle of joy and took him to the hospital. Shortly thereafter they were sent home and told to wait to see the pediatrician the following day. Within minutes of being seen by the pediatrician, they were rushed back into the ER. Gabriel was then air lifted to Colorado Springs Children’s hospital where his condition became critical and it was determined that he be transported to Denver Children’s. Baby Gabriel has been diagnosed with propionic acidemia. Propionic acidemia is a rare, life-threatening, inherited metabolic disorder. Because the body cannot process certain building blocks of protein (amino acids) and fats, these substances build up to toxic levels in the blood and tissues. This toxic buildup acts like an "intoxication" in the body, primarily affecting the brain, nervous system, and heart. This condition has placed Gabriel in critical condition.
Kylie and Ivan are now facing the most terrifying and challenging times of their lives as parents. They are doing everything they can to make sure Gabriel gets the best care possible, but the journey has been overwhelming both emotionally and financially but they are determined to stay strong for Gabriel and each other.
With Gabriel’s diagnosis and medical crisis, they’ve been hit with mounting medical bills and the need for lodging away from home. On top of that, daily expenses continue to add up, making it hard to keep up with everything. We are reaching out to our friends, family and community for support because we know they can’t do this alone and as a family the last thing we want them to have to worry about is the financial stress of this journey.
Our family appreciates any help you are able to give, including just sharing baby Gabriel’s story, this fundraiser and prayer. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us, and every bit of support brings us hope during this challenging time.
