My sweet niece, Elsie, came into this world early, weighing just 4 lbs 14 oz, and was diagnosed with microcephaly. At first, things seemed to be going well after she went home, but my sister Kendra and brother-in-law Zach soon noticed that something wasn’t right.
After a whirlwind of ER visits, two helicopter flights, and endless worry, Elsie was admitted to MUSC in Charleston. For weeks, she underwent test after test as doctors worked to find answers. They initially believed she was suffering from myocarditis, and after intensive treatment, she thankfully stabilized and was able to go home.
Unfortunately, at a recent follow-up appointment, Kendra and Zach received difficult news, Elsie’s condition had worsened again. The doctors are still unsure of the exact cause, and discussions have now begun about a possible heart transplant along with other surgeries and treatments for additional complications that have surfaced.
Right now, Kendra is staying in Charleston full-time with Elsie, while Zach travels back and forth from Anderson to work and care for my nephew, Anders. The emotional, physical, and financial toll on their family has been overwhelming.
I’m reaching out to ask for any help or support you can give to ease their burden during this incredibly difficult time. Whether it’s a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing this page, every bit of kindness makes a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with our family and helping us support baby Elsie through this fight.
