Our son, Braxton Reid Sanders, is just one month old and has already shown incredible strength. At two weeks old, we noticed he was throwing up more than usual, and during a routine pediatrician visit, we shared our concerns. After monitoring him for a week, his doctor noticed a significant increase in his head circumference, which led to the diagnosis of hydrocephalus. It was a moment that changed everything for our family.

Braxton had to undergo surgery at just three weeks old to have a shunt placed in his head, helping to redirect spinal fluid to his abdomen. Since then, we’ve been making frequent trips to see his pediatric neurologist and pediatrician, which is about an hour away from our home. The medical bills have been overwhelming, especially since we do not have insurance. We had already used much of our savings to pay for Braxton’s birth, and now, with me exclusively breastfeeding and my fiancé taking time off work to support us, our financial situation has become even more challenging. The costs of hospital stays, doctor visits, and travel are adding up quickly.

Despite these hardships, Braxton is doing better since his surgery, but we know there is a long road ahead. Becoming parents was a dream come true, and seeing our baby boy go through so much so soon has been heartbreaking. We want to give Braxton the best life possible, especially after his first month has been spent in and out of hospitals. I was able to have Braxton at home, surrounded by loved ones, and that memory is something I will always cherish.
