On March 6, 2026, Christa and Jeff welcomed their sweet baby boy, Baker, into the world—much earlier than expected. Born at just 27 weeks, Baker arrived 13 weeks early, weighing only 3.7 pounds, and was immediately placed in the NICU, where he has been fighting bravely ever since.

The NICU quickly becomes a second home for families like theirs. What was expected to be a long but steady journey of about ten weeks recently took an unexpected turn. A few days ago, Baker experienced new complications that required him to be transferred from Salem to OHSU in Portland on March 17. He is now undergoing extensive testing, and while answers are still unfolding, Christa and Jeff are staying close—one day, one test, one hopeful step at a time.

In addition to caring for Baker, Christa and Jeff are also raising their two older boys, Kanon and Graedy, who are active, energetic kids deeply involved in sports. Their days are usually filled with practices, games, and the joyful chaos of family life—now layered with constant travel between hospitals, home, and activities, often in different cities. The last couple of weeks have stretched their hearts—and their entire family—in every direction.

Support from their friends, family, and community will help ease the day-to-day challenges they are navigating—travel back and forth to Portland, long hospital days, temporary lodging to remain close to Baker, and the many extra expenses that come with juggling NICU life and home life at the same time. It offers space for Christa and Jeff to focus on caring for their family and supporting Baker every step of the way.
