In Loving Memory of Aylani & Ms. Joyce “Grammy” Buncom — A Family Forever Changed
On Sunday, November 23, 2025, my family experienced an unimaginable tragedy. A devastating house fire claimed the lives of my beautiful and intelligent 6-year-old Aylani Johana Burgos and my beloved grandmother, Ms. Joyce Buncom, affectionately known to all as “Grammy.” Both fought bravely but sadly succumbed to the severe injuries they sustained in the fire. Their sudden loss has shattered our hearts in ways words can barely describe.
About Sweet Aylani
Aylani was the bright, joyful, and sassy light of my life and the light of our entire family. Only 6 years old, she was a beloved first-grader whose vibrant spirit touched everyone she met.
She loved cooking class, practicing gymnastics, and anything that let her imagination shine. A true girly girl, she adored Powerpuff Girls, unicorns, LOL dolls, and going on Target runs with her family.
She had a poetic soul, often writing small poems and expressing herself in ways far beyond her years. Aylani was deeply loved by everyone—her laughter, kindness, and creativity made the world around her brighter.
About Ms. Joyce “Grammy” Buncom
At 95 years old, Ms. Joyce Buncom lived a life full of love, service, and grace. A devoted member of St. Pascal’s Baylon Church for over 60 years, she attended Mass every Sunday and remained active in church life well into her nineties. Grammy was well-known in her St. Albans community, where she resided for over 60 years.
Grammy was an avid traveler, a joyful spirit who loved bingo, and a talented crocheter whose hands created warmth for so many. She loved to dance despite her age, keeping her 95 years young with every step and every smile. Grammy was a pillar of strength, faith, and tradition in our family and community.
The bond between Aylani and Grammy was something special—pure love between generations. Losing them both so suddenly, in the same tragedy, is a pain our family will carry forever.
Ongoing Family Tragedy
This heartbreaking fire also severely affected Paula Buncom-Grant, age 68—my mother, Grammy’s daughter, and Aylani’s grandmother. Paula remains in the hospital, fighting through her injuries, and our family is praying for her full recovery.
In this time of overwhelming grief and devastation, we are asking for support to help us give both of our angels a proper, dignified burial and to assist with the ongoing medical needs and recovery efforts for Paula.
All funds will go directly toward:
• Funeral and burial expenses for Aylani and Grammy
• Memorial arrangements honoring their beautiful lives
• Support for Paula’s medical care and recovery
• Rebuilding what was lost in this tragic fire
No amount is too small. Every donation, every share, and every prayer helps our family carry this heavy burden. Your kindness means more than we can ever express.
Thank you for holding our family in your heart during this unimaginable time.
Rest in Heaven, sweet Aylani and beloved Grammy.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
