Support for Axton & family
Donation protected
On Friday, February 14, 2020, my sister-in-law Misty took her 16-month-old son Axton to their physician and subsequently to a hospital in Fort Collins because he wasn’t feeling well. A couple hours later, they were in an ambulance heading to a hospital with a higher level of care down in Denver. While en route to Presbyterian St. Luke’s (PSL) hospital, Axton received what would be the first of nearly a dozen emergency blood transfusions due to extremely low hemoglobin levels.
Over the Valentine’s Day weekend, the staff in the pediatric ICU at PSL worked hard to get our little Axton stabilized. On Monday, February 17, they did a procedure to take some bone marrow samples from Axton’s hips in an effort to diagnose what was causing the problems with his blood levels. Thankfully Axton was under anesthesia for the procedure, because it took 7 tries on each hip for them to be able to get enough bone marrow to test.
After the procedure, it was time for more rest (for Axton) and the agony of waiting on a diagnosis. On Tuesday, February 18, our family received the devastating news we had been dreading...the root issue was leukemia. The diagnosis was heartbreaking, especially considering how sweet and innocent our little buddy is and how confused and uncomfortable he must be. Plans were immediately put into place to aggressively start treating Axton and on the morning of Wednesday, February 19, he underwent a spinal tap procedure and had his first round of chemotherapy. Those procedures went smoothly and he is back to resting.
Axton has been such a strong little trooper during all of this. Similarly, our immediate and extended family and network of friends and colleagues have all been so gracious with their prayers and offers of support. This is just the beginning of a very long, tough journey for Axton and our family. Misty and her husband Brandon are the last people who would ask for any kind of help, but in this tough time, present and future, they will need it. For that reason, we are humbly asking for your help by way of financial donations and spreading the word. All money received from donations will go directly to Brandon, Misty, and Axton. The money will be used to help defray the exponentially growing medical bills (insurance deductibles, out of pocket, etc.); travel and lodging expenses while they are 80+ miles from home; child care for their four other wonderful young children, Raylynn, Aven, Royce, and Ruett (Axton’s twin brother); lost wages while away from work; etc.
Thanks you in advance for your help; whatever you can contribute means the world to us all.
