On Thursday, January 22nd, in Arden-Arcade, Sacramento, my family’s lives were changed forever in a matter of minutes.

My husband, Avieon Spencer, my younger brother, Semaj Mangum, and my uncle, Antwon Pace, were out running a simple errand—picking up snacks for myself and our mother—when an unexpected and terrifying series of events unfolded. What began as an ordinary moment quickly turned into a traumatic incident that left my family injured, separated, and facing overwhelming physical, emotional, and legal challenges.

During the incident, their vehicle was involved in a serious crash and flipped over. My uncle Antwon was critically injured and became trapped beneath the vehicle. He was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized and faces a long and painful recovery.

At the time of the crash, my brother Semaj was on FaceTime with me. My phone received an emergency SOS and crash alert, and I heard his fear and desperation in real time. Instead of immediate relief and safety, the aftermath became chaotic and deeply traumatic. My husband Avieon was assaulted and robbed while already injured. What should have been a moment of rescue became one of confusion, fear, and lasting trauma.

Despite being victims in need of help, my family was treated as suspects. My husband Avieon was apprehended and suffered severe injuries in the process. All charges against Avieon have since been dropped, but he continues to recover physically and emotionally from the events of that night.

My brother Semaj is a minor and is currently being held in a juvenile facility as his case moves through the legal system. As his sister, watching a child endure this level of trauma is something no family is ever prepared for.

These are not headlines. These are real people—a husband, a son, a brother, and an uncle—who have always shown up for their family and community. In one night, their lives were turned upside down, and the ripple effects have touched every part of our family.

We are now facing:
• Ongoing medical bills and hospital care
• Legal representation and court-related expenses
• Rehabilitation and long-term recovery needs
• Emotional and mental health support following extreme trauma

This fundraiser exists to help cover these urgent and necessary costs so that Avieon, Semaj, and Antwon can focus on healing—physically, emotionally, and mentally—without the added burden of financial devastation.

We are doing everything we can as a family, but we cannot do this alone.

If you are able to donate, share our story, or keep us in your prayers, please know that your support means more than words can express. Every contribution—no matter the size—helps us move one step closer to stability, healing, and hope.

Thank you for standing with our family during the most difficult time of our lives.

With gratitude,
Ajane Spencer
