We’ve held off sharing too much, but we wanted to update everyone on what’s been going on with our sweet Avery.
After a sudden and terrifying illness, she was diagnosed with NMOSD, a rare autoimmune condition that causes inflammation in the spinal cord and optic nerves. Soon after, we learned she’s also battling AFM, another rare neurological condition that affects the spinal cord and leads to paralysis. She is currently paralyzed from the chest down, has spent 36 days in the PICU, and was moved to the rehabilitation floor last night, where she will be working hard for her recovery.
She's showing unbelievable strength and determination, and taking this one day at a time.
Avery has always loved big, and right now she’s leaning hard on that same love from her friends and family. Every text message, every prayer, every bit of encouragement is lifting her in ways we can’t describe. She truly feels it. Please keep them coming. Cami and I read all your messages to her, and she tells us how to respond.
We’re taking things day by day, holding on to hope, and believing in healing. Please continue to keep Avery in your prayers. She’s fighting with everything she’s got—and we’re right there fighting alongside her.
—Pete, Missy, Cami, and Avery
