My name is Austin Smith, and I never imagined I would be in this position. On June 9th, 2025, while at Santa Rosa main unit prison, I was attacked by two officers and three inmates. The assault left me with a broken skull and brain damage, and I have already undergone two surgeries to try to recover. Since then, I have tried to work, but physically I just can't. My disability claim is dragging on, and I have no way to support myself right now.
Because of my injuries, I have to live with my parents, who are both on social security. They are doing everything they can to help me, but it's getting harder every day. I am facing overwhelming medical bills, and my parents are paying for my food and supplies just so I don't go hungry or end up homeless. Their income can barely cover their own bills, and now they're struggling to keep up with mine too.
I've never not been able to work, and it hurts me deeply to have to ask for help. If you know me, you know I wouldn't reach out unless I truly had no other option. To anyone considering helping, please know you are blessing me and my family in ways I can't express. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any support you can give.
