Support for August Dewey Thompson
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,
It is with the heaviest heart that I am writing this update on behalf of Josh and Shelby. Their sweet boy, August Dewey Thompson, passed away this morning, Wednesday, January 11th, during surgery. His little heart wasn’t able to take the stress of the operation. It is impossible to let him go, but their little angel is now with our other angels in God’s hands and will be forever in our hearts.
We love you all and thank you so much for the support of our family, especially for Josh and Shelby, during this past week and going forward. We are devastated by their loss and ask that you continue to hold them in your prayers.
At this time, we are asking that all messages be left on either the GoFundMe wall or on shared Facebook posts. They are asking for patience in responding to messages already received. Thank you again for your understanding and care during this unimaginable and devastating time.
Love and healing prayers,
The Thompson and Cardwell Families
On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, August Dewey Thompson came into the world two weeks early via C-section. Shelby and Josh were over the moon and thrilled to be welcoming a beautiful baby boy into their arms. During the next 24 hrs, August’s health started to deteriorate. He was not able to regulate his body temperature and was hypoglycemic (low blood sugar). By Wednesday night he was moved to the NICU at Renown Children’s Hospital. Once there it was discovered that he has hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a congenital heart defect that kept the left side of August’s heart from developing properly.
On Thursday afternoon, 1/5, August was sent via air ambulance to Las Vegas’s Sunrise Children’s Hospital where he is being cared for by their expert Pediatric Cardiology team. He is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) here at Sunrise, then is expected to be transferred to the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), where he will undergo highly complicated open heart surgery to save his precious life. This surgery will be the first of three open heart surgeries he will need to have before age four.
While in Las Vegas, Josh and Shelby are staying at the Ronald McDonald House, close to the hospital. They will be in Las Vegas for a minimum of three weeks. We are so grateful to the Ronald McDonald House for providing this to them and any other family in a similar situation at no cost to the family.
This GoFundMe fundraiser will help with the overwhelming expenses that Josh and Shelby are facing while their baby boy is fighting for his life. Funds raised will hopefully allow them some peace of mind during this extremely challenging time. We are asking for financial help to support them during this long and terrifying process.
We thank every single one of you for taking the time to read this, for finding it in your heart to help, and for your thoughts and prayers. We kindly ask you to please continue to post/share the link for this GoFundMe Fundraiser.
We tremendously appreciate everyone's generosity!
God Bless you all!
Love,
The Thompson and Cardwell Families and Friends
