Athena has always been a bright, silly, and sweet child, but over the past few weeks, she began suffering from severe headaches, frequent vomiting, and dizziness. On Monday, her symptoms suddenly worsened—her eyes went cross and droopy, which led her mom, Rebecca, to rush her to the ER. There, doctors immediately performed a CT scan and discovered a tumor on Athena's brain. She was quickly transferred to the children's hospital ICU, where the family learned that the tumor had been slowly growing for some time.
The tumor, about the size of a lemon, was blocking Athena's spinal fluid from draining, which explained why she had been feeling so sick. To relieve the pressure, doctors placed a catheter in her head to drain the fluid, and her biopsy has been sent to St. Jude for further analysis. This has been an incredibly difficult and frightening time for Athena, her mom Rebecca, and her brother Aden, as they face many unknowns and a long road ahead. Aden is also being deeply affected as he worries about his sister and adjusts to all the changes at home.
Rebecca is a single mom and will be out of work until further notice to care for Athena and support Aden. The funds raised will help cover bills and living expenses while she focuses on her children’s well-being. Please help and support Rebecca and her family with donations, prayers, and shares. Every bit of support will make a difference as they navigate this challenging journey together.
