My name is Brandee and just before Christmas, my sweet fur baby, April, became unexpectedly and frighteningly ill. What started as ongoing stomach distress quickly turned into increasing lethargy, and my heart told me something wasn’t right. On 12/27, her veterinarian diagnosed her with pancreatitis. She is now on four medications to control nausea, diarrhea, and infection, along with a three-day injection costing nearly $200 per dose. With testing, medications, and treatment, the cost has overwhelmed us even with insurance. April isn’t just my dog — she’s my baby, my constant companion, and my heart. There was never a question of getting her the care she needs, but this unexpected expense so soon after Christmas has been overwhelming.
