Hey family & friends! I was recently diagnosed with cancer (6/4). I'm not sure why, but I never imagined this would happen to me! I'm in disbelief & afraid of the unknown. I did my best to handle this alone & only shared with my immediate family. I'm in need of encouragement & support. This has been a humbling experience.
Since diagnosis, treatment & care have been expedited. Surgery is happening soon (6/19)! My care team is reassuring! I believe I'm in good hands & cared for by "the best in the state"! I am HOPING this surgery will be the first step to a cure & my healing.
Some of you may know that in October, I changed professions. I'm not eligible for certain benefits. I'm creating this in hopes to supplement my income until I return to work.
I learned of a "new indication of cancer" in March. I thought I was constipated. I just knew the mass I felt was a bowel obstruction. Through the discovery & testing phase a mass was found in the retroperitoneum area of my abdomen. This is where the kidneys, pancreas & part of a major valve are located. I felt defeated & more than concerned. I had a hysterectomy a year ago.
My diagnosis (dedifferentiated) Liposarcoma, it isn't common. "It's a rare form of soft tissue sarcoma which affects approximately 4 in 100,000 people in the U.S. each year." "Liposarcoma, originates in fat cells. Dedifferentiated liposarcomas have a poorer prognosis, with a 5 year survival rate of about 50% due to local recurrence and rapid metastasis."
My hope is to outlive this expected outcome with the help of surgery. Unfortunately I don't have the income insurance of FMLA. I'm leaning on those that care for or know of me for support. If you are willing to help me to help myself until I'm able to return to work I would GREATLY appreciate it.
