My younger sister April Reid (McAndrews) has been diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma tumor in her brain. Follow her here: https://www.instagram.com/my_view_pointe/
The tumor is large and growing, and one of the best neurosurgeons at UCSD was able to schedule her for surgery on February 19. This has all happened so quickly and has been a huge shock to our family. The aftermath of removing the tumor is unknown—April will be in surgery for 8-10 hours and will stay in the hospital for at least five days. The surgeon has said she will lose all hearing in one ear, and there are still questions about her eyesight and facial nerves until after the operation. Rehab will be needed, and recovery could be a long road ahead.
April has three children, two of whom are in high school and aware of the situation, while her younger daughter does not yet know. Her husband is an independent contractor working jobs around Valley Center and Pauma Valley, and he has been taking time off to help with the kids and support April. With April unable to work and applying for disability, their income has already taken a hit and will continue to be affected during her recovery. We want to support them with food, finances, and anything else they may need as they face this uncertain time.
We are hoping anyone who would like to assist can donate what they can to help with medical costs, food, household expenses, and rehabilitation (which may include learning to walk again). Your kindness and support will mean so much to April and her family as they navigate this difficult journey.
