Post-Surgery Support for the Meolis

Family and Friends--

The start of a new year is challenging in its own right, but for Andy and Libby Meoli's family it has been extraordinarily challenging. On January 8th, following a significant winter storm that impacted a large swath of the U.S. including the Philadelphia area, Andy slipped on an early morning slick spot and fell while putting the trash out.

Andy's fall resulted in a closed fracture of the distal end of his right tibia, a fracture of his right fibula, and injury of his right ankle. On January 10th, he had intramedullary nail surgery to insert a metal rod and other hardware for stabilization of his tibia during the healing process. Andy has been non-weightbearing since the accident and will continue in that status until his leg bones and ankle have healed enough to allow him to bear weight again.

As if that wouldn't be plenty for Andy, Libby, and their two young boys to handle at the start of 2025, Andy had a surgery-related blood clot move to his lungs on January 11th, force his hospitalization to eight days, and require many additional scans, tests, and treatments to neutralize the pulmonary embolism. He's now been home for a week and is settling into a recovery and rehabilitation routine.

While Andy's prognosis is good at this time, it's unknown when he'll be able to return to work as a self-employed stained glass artist. In addition, while Andy is out of commission it is necessary for Libby to cut back on her therapy client load to cover family schedule and routine needs solo. This unplanned break in earnings for Andy and reduction in earnings for Libby compounded by the hospital and surgical bills that will remain after health insurance pays its part is a challenge the Meolis could use our assistance in meeting.
