Andrue Barnwell is a son, grandson, brother of three, best friend and one of the kindest and gentlest souls. Despite unfortunate events in 2020, he maintains his pursuit for a career in law enforcement. At 21 years old, he attends a university to major in criminal justice and maintains his unwavering passion to help those in need.
On the evening of Wednesday October 14th, 2020 Andrue was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. For those unaware, Osteosarcoma is a cancer of the bones. In about 15 to 20% of patients, it has spread by the time it is diagnosed. Stjude.org notes that it typically spreads to the lungs but sometimes to other bones. If the disease has not spread, Andrue’s survival rate is 70-75%. If the osteosarcoma has spread to his lungs or other bones at diagnosis, the long-term survival rate is about 30%.
Andrue has been referred to the largest cancer center in the US, the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Here he will start with two weeks of testing but we fear it might take much longer as he faces both surgeries and chemotherapy for his condition. Being from out of state, Andrue’s parents face a financial burden that they never could have planned for.
My name is James Barnwell and I am Andrue’s older brother. I have known him all 21 years and seen him grow into the kind man he is today. My number one goal is to help him over this life-altering hurdle and to get back to achieving his dreams. Your donations will go towards medical bills, hotel fees, and other traveling expenses. All contributions will go directly to Andrue’s parents joint bank account. Please give what you can. Thank you so much.
