This week, my dear friend Edgar received the heartbreaking news that his 6-year-old daughter, Andrea Velazquez, was diagnosed with leukemia. Andrea is a bright, joyful child who loves to color, adores Bluey, and spends her happiest moments running and playing at the park. Just yesterday, she underwent surgery, and today she begins her treatment journey.

Edgar is not only a devoted father but also a hardworking colleague of mine at Family Health Center and Juniper and Ivy. He has always gone above and beyond to provide for his family. Now, faced with Andrea’s diagnosis, Edgar will need to take time away from work to be by her side and support her through every step of her treatment. This sudden change means the family will face financial challenges on top of the emotional toll of Andrea’s illness.
