Our family is walking through something no one is ever prepared for.
My daughter Amelia, her husband Dustin and my grandson Buckley recently experienced a devastating house fire. The fire started in their garage and caused substantial damage to the structure of their home. While we are incredibly grateful that Amelia, Dustin, our little Buckley, and their two dogs all made it out safely, nearly all their belongings have been lost to fire, smoke, or water damage.
As they begin the overwhelming process of navigating homeowners' insurance, auto insurance, inspections, investigations, assessors, and endless follow-up appointments, they are also trying to keep life as normal and stable as possible for little Buckley in the middle of so much trauma and disruption.
They have already learned that insurance will only cover so much, and there are important gaps they now must face. Amelia needs time away from her remote job to handle the many immediate demands this fire has created, and both she and her husband are dealing with lost income during this crisis. On top of that, they are now facing extra living expenses, transportation needs such as rental cars, and the enormous task of starting over after losing so much.
We have been deeply humbled by the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, workplaces, and their community. It has reminded us just how much these kids mean to so many people. Amelia and Dustin are the kind of people who always show up for others. They are helpers, givers, and the village for so many. Right now, they are the ones in need of that same village surrounding them.
Prayers, love, and well wishes are always appreciated. And for anyone who feels led to give, any support—no matter the amount—will help bridge the gap as they work to rebuild, recover, and find their way back home.
Thank you for loving them through this unimaginable time.
**Urgent Update**
We have received heartbreaking news following continued communication with the insurance adjuster: Amelia, Dustin, and little Buckley will now be displaced from their home for at least a year, possibly longer. The damage is so severe that the home must be gutted completely down to the studs.
This is a devastating setback and means the needs facing this family are far greater and longer than originally expected. They are now looking at extended housing costs, extra living expenses, transportation needs, replacement essentials, and ongoing loss of normalcy while trying to care for Buckley and rebuild their lives.
Insurance will not cover everything, and the financial gap is significant. We are asking our community for urgent help. If you can donate, share this fundraiser, or keep this family in your prayers, it would mean so much.
Please help us continue lifting this family up during one of the hardest seasons of their lives.
Thank you so much.
