Support for Amelia and Family
Donation protected
I have set up this GoFundMe page to help my oldest daughter and her family as their needs have become beyond our means and theirs to get her help. Amelia fell and tore a ligament in her foot on June 19, 2020. While a torn ligament is not a terrible injury in itself,
it caused an underlying dormant condition to exacerbate into a neurological disease called complex regional pain syndrome or CRPS. Not much is known about this disease except that it affects the nerves and causes intense pain. I have heard it described as the feeling of hot lava being poured on you while 1000 these are stinging you at the same time.It can affect any person at any age and perfect or in poor health. It can spread throughout your entire body including your skin, organs and bones. It is also called the suicide disease. Other than severe chronic pain there are other symptoms including brain fog, allodynia, migraines and muscle wasting. Amelia has been bedridden since the injury (she was running 5 to 6 miles a day before her injury). Her torn ligament cannot be repaired because surgery will cause the CRPS to spread. There are very few in the medical field who know and/or treat CRPS. Trying to find relief and treatment and fighting with insurance (Tricare/military insurance) has become a full-time job for Amelia who already had three auto immune diseases to contend with. She has had a lot of help from generous friends and family and we are more than thankful for the help received. Amelia‘s husband must work and cannot always take off for her appointments. Nathan is also a disabled veteran who served 20 years in the US Air Force. Her nine-year-old son has to have an MRI, blood work done and follow up but Amelia cannot get him to these appointments, much less get herself to her appointments or her son to his school so he must homeschool. What her family needs are funds to pay/hire someone to help her and her son get to the doctor appointments, pick up prescriptions and just run every day errands. They are trying to get her into a treatment for her CPRS called Calmare therapy. The only place in Houston who administers this therapy is MD Anderson, which is not possible since Amelia does not have cancer. There are clinics in other cities but Calmare Therapy is not covered by insurance. Add to that the lodging, transportation, etc. that would be necessary with getting this needed treatment.
Thank you for any donations and I ask that you keep Amelia, Nathan and Blake in your prayers.
