It is with heavy hearts that we share the impending passing of Amber, a beloved 17-year-old and cherished member of the Douglas community who is living out her last couple of days at the UMASS PICU. Her mom has made the hardest decision any mom should ever have to make and will be ending life saving measures this week. This week was supposed to be Amber's Make A Wish Trip to Disney. Instead she spent it fighting to stay alive.

Amber lived with Rett syndrome and showed incredible resilience throughout her life. Her strength and presence touched everyone who knew her and taught so many the true meaning of perseverance and unconditional love.

At the center of Amber’s life was her mom, whose unwavering care, devotion, and advocacy never wavered. To meet Amber’s complex needs, her mom as sole caregiver and financial provider had to step away from work to provide full-time care, always putting Amber’s comfort, safety, and quality of life first. Their bond was deep and unbreakable.
