In February of 2025, my wife Amanda was diagnosed with Stage IVA squamous cell carcinoma cervical cancer. She underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy, and by July of 2025, we were told she showed No Evidence of Disease.
In December of 2025, a routine CT scan revealed a new mass. Further imaging and biopsies confirmed a recurrence, with findings concerning for active disease. There has been no evidence of distant metastasis, and imaging continues to suggest the cancer remains localized to the cervix and upper vaginal area.
After extensive testing, pathology review, and tumor board evaluation, Amanda has now been approved for surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She is scheduled to undergo pelvic exenteration on March 16, 2026. This is an extremely extensive and high risk surgery pursued with curative intent. While a cure cannot be guaranteed, her team has estimated there is approximately a 50 percent chance she can achieve a cancer free outcome if the disease remains fully localized.
We will be relocating to Houston for approximately one month surrounding the surgery and early recovery period. Amanda will be hospitalized, and I will need to remain nearby during her recovery. Insurance does not cover lodging, food, transportation, or daily living expenses during this time.
Amanda will also need to temporarily close her shop, which is her primary source of income. While the earliest possible reopening could be around six weeks post surgery, recovery from a procedure of this magnitude can take several months. This means an extended loss of income while medical and recovery related expenses continue.
We are raising funds to help cover out of pocket medical expenses, travel and lodging costs in Houston, daily living expenses during recovery, and lost income while Amanda heals.
Any support through donations or sharing this page truly helps more than we can express. We are deeply grateful!
