For the past 16 years, I have lived with epilepsy, managing my condition with multiple medications and doing my best to lead a normal life. Recently, I experienced a grand mal seizure while driving. Thankfully, I was able to pull off the road safely, but the incident quickly became traumatic. The police found me and, misunderstanding my medical situation, cited me for DUI and administered Narcan. I was taken to the hospital in handcuffs, where doctors quickly recognized that I was having a seizure, not an overdose. My blood tests were clean, and I have no history of substance use. To stop the seizures, doctors placed me in a medically induced coma, and I woke up five days later, overwhelmed with relief that no one was hurt. This was the first time in 16 years that something like this had happened, and it truly opened my eyes to the risks I face every day. I have run my own flooring installation company for six years, but due to the trauma of this event and my inability to drive for at least three months, I have made the difficult decision to close my business. I have been out of work for several weeks and am actively searching for new opportunities, especially work-from-home positions. However, finding a job has been challenging, and my savings have run out. My bills continue to pile up, and I am doing everything I can to support my family during this uncertain time. The funds raised will help cover my upcoming medical and living expenses while I work to get back on my feet. I also hope to give back to the Epilepsy Foundation and encourage others to support epilepsy research and awareness. This disease has limited treatment options, and I may need to return to the hospital for further testing to better understand my condition. Any support you can offer during this difficult time means the world to me. Thank you for reading my story and for considering a donation or sharing this fundraiser. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference in my life and in the fight against epilepsy.
