Remembering Alexis Walters

UPDATE

Alexis' beautiful spirit is free, soaring into the next realm where there is only infinite love and freedom. Alexis transitioned the evening of Sunday, October 10th at Kaiser Oakland.

The GoFundMe is still very much needed to pay for burial costs and a plot at Piedmont Cemetery, so Tina, Derek and all who love Alexis can have a beautiful place to go and be with her. The fund will also be used to honor Alexis' wishes that her two horses are boarded together, which is very expensive. Any excess funds will be divided between the StepOne School Scholarship Fund and horseback riding scholarship for underprivileged children.

Anyone who has ever met Alexis knows that she is one of the bravest people you will ever meet. She has had cancer for the past three years and, tragically, in the last few weeks the treatment has stopped working. Very recently her symptoms increased and she was told that the cancer spread to her brain and spine, among other areas.

 

Many of you know her as “Teacher Alexis” at Step One School, where she is cherished and adored, forever etched into the hearts of hundreds of children and families she has guided, loved and supported. Others know her as a gifted horse trainer and animal lover, mother to her three beloved animals – Cooper (horse), Lady Bug (horse) and Dozer (dog) who she ran around with daily at Hossmoor ranch. At 39, Alexis is witty, wise and such a good friend.

 

Alexis is scheduled to come home this week to receive end-of-life care. The one thing we know is that the medical expenses for her end-of-life care will soon be insurmountable for her family. This page is being set up with the hope that, as her community we can help alleviate some of the financial burden to Alexis’ family as well as assist for care for her adored animals.
