From Alaina’s Parents 3/9 Alaina Update: Our baby girl continues to fight with everything she has and more, and we are seeing that strength every day. Since arriving and starting ECMO, she has already made some significant improvements. She is being monitored very closely and has the most incredible care team watching over her.

After more testing, we now know what we are dealing with. She has been diagnosed with pulmonary edema, severe heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and viral myocarditis. She has also tested positive for adenovirus, RSV, and human metapneumovirus. It has been a lot to take in, but having answers is helping guide the team in giving her the best care possible.

Right now, the main things they are monitoring for are seizures, urine output, excessive bleeding from the blood thinner she is on, making sure she doesn’t form any blood clots, ensuring adequate blood perfusion throughout her body, and making sure her heart doesn’t backflow into her lungs.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has reached out with love, prayers, and support. The amount of kindness we have received is truly unreal, and we are so thankful to be part of such an amazing community.
