Alex, AL, ALV, Rally… Son, brother, uncle, husband, neighbor, friend…whatever the name you know him by, whatever the capacity of who he is to you- the same genuine, heart on his sleeve, help a friend in need, supportive clever, human being shows up with charisma and kindness, every. time.
Even in his own, pain.
My little big brother asked me to be his witness for his wedding to his long time love, Charise at 1 pm on March 22nd,
“ I would be honored.” I replied. Emoji, emoji, emoji.
Instead, we found ourselves in his surgeon’s office, me- witnessing him, witnessing his body and wrapping his head around this new marriage of his own mortality.
I don’t claim to understand the workings of what may rise up for a person in moments like this one… I can’t imagine finding the silver lining… and yet, this remarkable human looked at me - to ask if I was okay.
“Everything is going to be okay.” I said, as I placed my right hand to his shoulder for a squeeze.
I am his little baby sister, Aims. When I owned restaurants, Rally would drop off Oolong tea for me, remind me to take a break, bring me a toy as a reminder to enjoy the present.
When I told him I was shifting my career as a practitioner for psychospiritual psychology, end of life + death + grief guiding- he wasn’t surprised because he knew I wanted to change the way people see grief, death + themselves.
And now here we are. The most challenging client because of many reasons…mostly because this is my big brother.
What I know is… the midst of all this chaotic dance called, Life - we forget that collectively it’s best to remember the community - to call on your people.
This journey has just begun… and Al needs, the Villanueva family needs your help. We need your support. As the road is unforeseen, the detours and flows of Al’s precious Life is thrown into the Universe.
Devastation has now planted it’s seeds… the prognosis is still in progress but we know from Al’s Surgery, they removed a huge blockage mass from his colon, most of his right colon, appendix, 26 lymph nodes …with continued mass on his Liver.. Stage 4. Treatable not curable. And yet, he continues to acknowledge how grateful he is, he continues to be grounded in his Breath.
No donation is too little, we are fortunate and grateful for all of you who have taken the time to reach out…
Below are some quotes his siblings + nieces + nephews wanted to share with the world about AL V (he hasn’t seen these yet :) emoji emoji emoji ) :
”He always spreads positive energy and even if you’re not with him for a long period of time, you will be smiling. “ - Sorin
”Uncle Al is so cute, he makes the whole world blush!” - Dante
“The first thing my mind goes to when I think of my sweet uncle al would be the fact that I have never felt judged by him. He makes me feel understood and cared for. I always feel heard, supported and he brings soothing energy to the family. All my friends get jealous whenever we are out and him and I run into each other, give a hug with our handshake - they immediately turn to me as soon as we say bye and gawk over how sweet and cool he is. I am so lucky cause all I do is smile and get the pleasure in saying, “I KNOW.”
I am so thankful our family has huge hearts and I believe I am a chunk of all of them. Thank you Uncle Al for showing me how to truly be there and care for my loved ones. I believe in you, I love you, Uncle Al. ” - K Bear
“Throughout my whole life, Uncle Al has always been the most selfless, supportive and caring person I know. He has the biggest heart I know. He’s taught me the true meaning of being selfless and giving. He always has some treat in his pocket that he doesn’t think twice about sharing with others. He’s a role model to me and one day, I hope to have the same effect on those around me that Uncle Al has on me and those lucky enough to have him in their lives.” - Janie
”He is like a firework, the way he is strong, bright and brings joy to everyone with his presence. I love you, Uncle Al! “ -Neeky hand
“I love uncle Al. He is so kind and makes me feel safe. I like the presents he picks me and I love his heart. A lot. Like the most. I like sharing candy together and playing pool.” - Rooux Kat
“Out of millions of people in the world, I am lucky Al is my little brother because he is the most caring and genuine person I know. He puts others needs before his own, making sure that you are taken care of first. A natural care giver. I love his dedication towards whatever he puts his mind too. His ability to teach himself and progress to the level is something I admire so much. I love my little brother.” - Dano
“He is my little brother, he always makes sure the family knows via text about road conditions or food warnings. He goes out of his way to ensure our safety and well being. He is my twin, I love you, Al.“
- Jean Grace
“The youngest I can remember Rally is when he and Jean use to set up our parents long hall way with boobie traps’ and throw stuff at me to dodge - he help amplified my ninja skills. As a toddler + child he would comfort me when I was sad, sharing candy and letting me fall asleep near him while we played Mortal Kombat- he gifted me the brilliance of compassion, altruism + ultimate Fatality combo moves. As a young teenager, Rally showed me how to skate, snowboard + amplify my rebellion side… he also came with me when I moved to Vancouver to help tend to me grief wounds… as an Adult, he named my first daughter… My brother is my best friend. Rally is the true epitome of humble in human form. I will find you in every lifetime. I love you. “ - Aimo
