My niece Akaiya is a joyful 3-year-old who loves Barbie toys, balloons, and anything KPop Demon Hunters. Recently, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, and her world has changed dramatically. She is now undergoing chemotherapy at Brenner’s Children’s Hospital and will soon have a stem cell transplant at Duke University Children’s Hospital. Some days are harder than others, and playing as much as she’d like isn’t always possible, but her spirit remains bright.

Akaiya is one of seven sisters, and her family is doing everything they can to care for her and her siblings. With only one vehicle, they are constantly juggling hospital appointments, sports, activities, and the needs of their youngest children. Because caring for Akaiya and her sisters is a full-time job, her parents are unable to work right now. Every month, they face the challenge of covering rent, electricity, cell phone bills, and other essentials. While hospitals and the Ronald McDonald House help with meals and laundry when they can, there are many times when the family needs to cover extra costs for food, laundry, gas, toiletries, diapers, wipes, and formula. Sometimes, a small treat or toy for one of the kids can make a big difference in their day.

This fundraiser is here to help Akaiya’s family pay for what they need most and to give them a sense of normalcy during an incredibly difficult time. With Christmas coming up, your support can also help bring some joy to the kids with gifts and special moments. Please consider helping Akaiya and her family as they face this long battle. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference in their lives and bring hope when they need it most.
