Hello! My name is Rose O'Brien and I'm an American in Washington D.C. connected to the Afghan community both here and abroad. I'm raising funds on behalf of a teenage student of mine, Aisha, who is living in Kabul. Aisha is a stellar student - funny, curious, hardworking, and shouldering a lot of responsibility in a household with no immediate male relatives. We have worked together for 8 months now during which time she has successfully studied for and passed the GED and started online university classes.
Aisha's mother has recently suffered a stroke and Aisha reached out to me to ask for short-term support to help pay for medical bills including the cost of an MRI, blood pressure medicine, and hospital visits. Because Aisha and her mother are women, they cannot get jobs outside of the home in Afghanistan where the Taliban regulate women's movement and economic freedoms, and are reliant on male relatives sending money from abroad.
Thank you in advance for any support you can share with these two women and please don't hesitate to reach out to me with questions.
The money will be shared with through a regulated money service business to cover costs at the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children.
*Please note my student's name has been changed for her security.
