I was blessed with the strongest most handsome baby boy 3/1/2024 making him the baby of 5 . To say he was so loved is an understatement. Through all the hard times and surgeries he had to endure starting at 5 days old with his first shunt he showed us all what a true warrior is. My baby boy was diagnosed with hydrocephalus during my pregnancy and after a 3 1/2 month NICU stay we finally went home. We were told he would need a trach since he was 5 weeks old all to find out he had a mass in his nose that was causing his breathing issues. We were released 6/14 as healthy as can be given his diagnosis. With a long road ahead with therapy and numerous specialist appointments there was no doubt my baby would overcome it all. 7/30/24 his heart rate continued to drop and fluctuate which sent us to the emergency room to find out his shunt failed, after surgery and test we found he had an infection in his csf fluid. From 7/30-9/21 my baby had 8 surgeries and procedures all on his head trying to clear infections. Once the first infection cleared we placed his new shunt and sent the fluid to be tested as protocol only to find out he has yet another infection so 2 days later we had to remove the shunt.

Fast forward to this past week I found out he had an episode at night last Friday or Saturday where they had to do compressions due to his oxygen levels going down and heart rate dropping which I wasn’t called and told about. That following Monday he had another episode where his oxygen levels dropped and needed compressions again. Once the nurses got him stable it began the process of why is this happening. Aside from his hydrocephalus he’s always been healthy for the most part . Spending everyday in the hospital with from the day he was born and being home with him learning him and what to watch for I knew something wasn’t right this was way out of the normal for him and out of nowhere. He was then intubate the next night due to another episode. Thursday 9/19 when I got to the hospital he seemed fine but throughout the day I noticed he wasn’t responsive at all when touching him or opening his eyes just a blank stare. It wasn’t until Saturday 9/21 the drs decided to do a brain scan (mris and X-rays were done prior) all to find out my baby was brain dead. From Monday and Tuesday perfectly fine. Responsive and awake to now being told my baby is Brian dead. So much went on and so many questions during the past 2months and we still don’t know how or why.

trying to make sense and give a clear understanding is hard my baby was given medications he didn’t need, I voiced that I was to be contacted prior to giving my baby any medication aside from his antibiotics and somehow that was miscommunicated from one nurse to the next. I was told he had seizures so they gave him medication for it. Once they explained these “seizures” I told them those arent seizures! He’s never had seizures we’ve had eeg’s done and he does not have them. They still wanted to continue giving him seizure medication in which I declined as I knew he didn’t need it and once his third eeg was completed it was confirmed he did not need it. The night he had “seizures” he was given 3 doses of Ativan and 1 dose of keppra all between the hours of 12am-4am that’s 4 hours . ! In 4 hours my 6month old was given 4 doses of 2 different medications he DID NOT NEED!

even after advocating for my baby and expressing that I KNOW MY BABY and they do not it just seems somewhere somehow there was negligence. That same Wednesday we told drs we wanted a second opinion ! Come Friday I was told he wasn’t stable to transfer.

the hospital sent my baby’s information to the medical examiners office and we were told due to what was on the paperwork it doesn’t qualify for them to do the autopsy for us so we will need to seek a private company to do so.
