Aaliyah turned 16 less than a month ago. What should have been one of the happiest times of her life has turned into something unimaginable. She was at a high school party when she became the victim of a shooting. For the past three days, she has been fighting for her life. She has already undergone two surgeries. The bullet caused severe injuries—hitting her vertebrae, puncturing her lung, passing through her kidney and liver, and finally lodging in her. Right now, she remains sedated as her body tries to heal. We are praying and holding onto hope that she will wake up soon and begin her long road to recovery. Anyone who knows her knows how special she is. She has the biggest heart, always putting others before herself. She is the life of every room she walks into—full of laughter, love, and energy. She is an incredible daughter, sister, niece, and the most loving aunt to her niece and nephew. She is so protective of the people she loves and brings so much light into all of our lives. We love her more than words can express, and we just want our girl back. As she begins this difficult healing journey, we want her to have something to look forward to and the support she deserves every step of the way.
